Hi All,

As you all know, TiO2 existed naturally as n-type semiconductor. If I wanted to make p-type semiconductor, what should I doped with?

I think this is good topic to discuss.

Hi,
Cr-doped TiO2 films have been reported to give p-type behavior.
There are papers related to the same,check the same.

Had an initial impression that its a direct band gap material.
but from whatever i got, anatase is indirect band gap while rutile in direct band gap.
being indirect band gap the recombns are less & so anatase is a better photocatalytic material.

Now I'm doing dye-sensitized solar cell, anatase phase is most suitable for it.

My supervisor always ask me why anatase phase has better photocatalytic activity than rutile phase. So, anatase is indirect band gap maybe one of the explanation.
 
Anyone knows other better explanation?

For direct bandgap material, usually good for electronics application, such as LED. ZnO is one of direct bandgap, which people intend to use for LED.
For TiO2 anatase phase, has indirect bandgap which is not good for electronics device but good for dye-sensitized solar cell because less electron recombination.
