Dispersive
Solids group
Affiliation :
At the materials department
Technische Universität Darmstadt
Research Activities : The Dispersive Solids Group of the Materials Science Department is concerned with
advanced ceramic materials for various high tech applications. Dispersive solids are characterized by a special configuration of composite materials,
where small particles of a fine divided phase are embedded in a matrix for improving the
properties of the basic material. Molecular design enables the synthesis of compounds having
tailor made properties
suitable for their conversion to ceramics. In our group polymer pyrolysis,
sol-gel-processing and chemical vapour deposition are the techniques applied for synthesis
of ceramics. The aim is to generate suitable microstructures, which fulfill the
requirements for high tech applications. Materials having high hardness, high temperature
stability, high oxidation resistance and defined electrical properties are examples of our
current studies.
